Here in Atlanta, we are frequently asked, "What is Green?" In a nutshell, green can be generally described as reuse, reduce and recycle.
To Reduce energy usage, for your customers. Every little bit counts, and it all adds up. Reduce pollutants in the air, water, and buildings inside, as well as air, water, and land outdoors. Reduce material usage. The important thing here is that any material is recycled or used again for another purpose and is not wasted.
Reuse materials, such as used cedar roofing which can be shredded into mulch and used on hiking trails, and also on garden landscaping. Since cedar biodegrades, it doesn’t need to be put in a landfill. New recycling opportunities are being developed for used tar shingles. They can be ground up and used as filler in private road way asphalt mix. Currently, this is a minimal use, because there are way too many asphalt roofs being torn off and dumped in wastefills. We encourage our customers to install their new green, Energy Star Cool Metal Roofing straight on top of their existing shingles. Slate roofing can be removed, broken up, and used as landscaping decoration. If you remove a used metal roof, it can often be re-applied on sheds, or even recycled.
Recycle. Architectural metals are easy to recycle, and one can even get reimbursed for them at a scrap center. Most any plastic materials can also be handed in, but you will normally need to cart it to a recycle yard near Atlanta.
We are dedicated to ongoing upgrades of our green practices to help improve our Atlanta environment. It is a continuous effort, where every tiny bit counts. We’re becoming greener every day. We’re recycling the scrap instead of sending it to a waste dump. We’re using fuel efficient Hybrid cars. We’re moved to electronic office methods to conserve paper usage. We’re performing routine roofing measurements and material lists via satellite pictures rather than traveling to the site. Satellite pictures saves gasoline and reduces emissions. Our green efforts have brought us money and reduced our expenses. There are direct benefits to our world, as well as adding joy and benefit to our Atlanta customers.
